Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
Home Instructions Before Oral Surgery
Please follow these instructions to prepare for oral surgery with IV Sedation.
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight hours prior to the appointment.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
- You are encouraged to drink plenty of water the day before surgery. Staying hydrated is very important.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain on site during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
- Do not wear nail polish, gel polish or acrylic nails on the day of surgery.
- No smoking tobacco for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- No marijuana use within 1 week of surgery as this can have a negative affect on the anesthesia experience.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves, and low-heeled shoes.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or upset bowels, please notify the office.
- If you take routine medications, please check with Dr. Rossen prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you the day of surgery.
Our office has a dedicated parking spot at the side of the building for your driver’s vehicle stating “For Sedation Patients Only.”
